As female wrestling becomes more popular, OHSAA has responded with an all-girls sanctioned Regionals and State tournament.  Representing Paulding County were Arin James of Wayne Trace and Cami McAlexander of Antwerp.

Arin James competed in the 105-pound weight class.  James was defeated in the first match by Madie Gladden with a pin in 4:13.  James then received a bye for her first match of the consolations.  Moving to the next match, Arin fell short to Charlize Distel of Arcadia.  Distel pinned Arin in 2:09, ending her season and high school wrestling career.

Cami McAlexander had a full bracket in the 110-pound weight class.  For McAlexander’s first match of the day, Cami fell to Lauren Mobley with a score of 16-3.  Cami then faced Elsie Mello of Archbold in the consolations.  Cami was defeated with a close score of 5-3, ending her season.

Both ladies represented the county well with their heart and determination.  These young women were part of history as they competed in the first sanctioned all-girls Regional tournament with a chance at Girls State Championship.  The future of female wrestling looks promising!  Good job Arin and Cami!
