Warriors Blanked by Flyers

WOODBURN – Visiting Marion Local opened its season by blanking Woodlan 42-0 in high school football action Friday night outside of Woodburn.

The Flyers dominated the Warriors in all facets of the game, limiting Woodlan to 75 yards of total offense while Marion Local controlled the ball for 29:02 compared to the Warriors’ 18:58.

Marion Local’s Brandon Fleck opened the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter before Nathan Bruns tossed a 27-yard touchdown pass to open the second quarter scoring.

Nolan Habodasz added a two-yard plunge for a score and Bruns found the end zone from five-yards out for another touchdown as Marion Local expanded the lead to 28-0 at the halfway point.

Habodasz picked up his second touchdown of the night on a six-yard scamper for the lone third quarter score, widening the Flyer lead to 35-0.

Dylan Heitkamp then completed the scoring on a one-yard touchdown run in the final period. Alex Klosterman was a perfect six of six on extra-point kicks for Marion Local.

Quarterback Ben Reidy was 8 of 15 through the air for the Warriors, throwing for 54 yards on the night. Jack Stuckey led the way with five receptions for 20 yards while Trevor Wallace, Keegan Jones and Tyrarn Jones also had catches.

Reggie Blackman paced the Woodlan rushing attack with 30 yards on eight carries.

The Warrior defense was led by Seb Spieth with 14 tackles while Dane Castleman added a dozen stops and Isaac Meyer posted ten.

Spieth, Castleman and Dan Herschberger all had tackles for a loss for the Warrior defense.

Woodlan (0-2) will open ACAC action on Friday when the Warriors host Heritage (0-2).

The Patriots will hit the road for the third straight time this season as Heritage has lost at Eastside (46-13) and Norwell (33-6).

Heritage is averaging 94 yards per game both on the ground and through the air. 

Quarterback Parker Tracy has completed 20 of 56 passes for 188 yards on the season with Chase Luginbill, Michael Scheumann and Cameron Mitchell tied for the team lead with four receptions each.

Hunter Bradtmueller paces Heritage on the ground with 103 yards on 24 carries.
