Vantage October Board Meeting Held 10/8/15

The Vantage Board of Education held the October Board meeting on Thursday, October 8, 2015 in the District Conference room. The minutes from the September 3, 2015 regular Board meeting were approved along with financial statements for the month of August, 2015.

Superintendent Staci Kaufman updated the Board on TIFs and CRAs slated for Board approval and introduced Larry Davis, Automotive Technology instructor and Dave DeLano, Building and Grounds instructor to the Board. She noted the reason for the recommendation for the name change for the adult education operation to the Ohio Technical Center at Vantage Career Center. Ms. Kaufman also asked if there were questions regarding the recommendation for approval of the date changes regarding student growth committee deadlines made to the teacher evaluation article of the negotiated agreement with the VTO. Adult Education Director Pete Prichard reported on the ABLE classes being held at Vantage, the Delphos Library, and Paulding County Ohio Means Jobs Center; enrollment; financial aid assistance for current students; completion of final grades for students completing the 160-hour externship portion of the Medical Assisting program; the “Student Experience Program” — a 20-hour program in which 14 students participated; and the Policy Academy, which is at full capacity. High School Director Ben Winans reported on Student Appreciation Day held on September 11 during which students were treated to an afternoon of fun and activities, the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) banquet held on September 29 in honor of 24 inductees, the newly introduced “Good as Gold” positive reinforcement award for students, and upcoming events for October and November.

Approved an overnight stay for Vantage Satellite/Van Wed FCCLA students to attend the FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference at the Heartland Retreat Center, Marengo, Ohio with FCCLA/FCS Instructor, Lynda Ragan, from October 12-13, 2015.

Approved the name change of the Vantage Career Center Adult Education department to the Ohio Technical Center at Vantage Career Center, per the Ohio Department of Higher Education. Ohio Technical Centers are to provide labor market-driven, postsecondary workforce education and training in 91 career-technical planning districts throughout the state.

Approved the articulation agreement between Rhodes State College and Vantage Career Center for the Adult Workforce Education EMT Program.

Approved the CRA TaxAbatement from Tin Cap Investments, LLC, Van Wert, Ohio for a 10-year, 100% tax abatement to renovate a building at 145 E. Main Street, Van Wed at a cost of $40,000. The renovation will involve saving a downtown building that is set for demolition in order to attract new tenants and preserve the history and character of the downtown area.

Approved the Van Wert Community Reinvestment Area Agreement for Maurice R. and Cheryl K. Wistner, 264 Prairie Lane, Van Wert, Ohio and Vantage Career Center for a 5-year, 50% tax abatement for new construction at a cost of $162,000.

Approved the Memorandum of Agreement between the Vantage Teachers’ Organization and Vantage Career Center to approve new dates for SGM Committee deadlines in Article VIII “Evaluation System,” Section J, “Student Growth Measures (SGM),” of the Negotiated Agreement.

Accepted the donation of various new electrical wire, supplies, and fixtures, valued at $682.74, from Flat Land Supply, Co., Van Wert, Ohio toward the Electricity program.

Acknowledged the 15-year Tax Increment Financing between Bare Creek Farms, LLC, and Perry Township; Vantage Career Center will receive annual compensation in the amount of $177.39.

Acknowledged the 15-year Tax Increment Financing between Spitnale Pig, LTD, and Perry Township; Vantage Career Center will receive annual compensation in the amount of $390.26.

Approved the Natural Gas Supply Agreement with Dominion Retail, Inc., for the purchase of natural gas.

The next regular Board meeting will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the District Conference Room.
