Big Points for Ohio and Indiana Wins at All Star Basketball Game

The fans and a teams had a lot of fun at this new event!

The First Annual Tournament of All-Star Basketball Players took place on Saturday, April 5 at AHS. Antwerp, Ohio Athletic Director pulled off two great games between Ohio and Indiana boys and girls Basketball players. The players for Indiana were from New Haven, Leo, South Adams, Heritage, Adams Central and Eastside. Senior Ohio players were from Antwerp, Crestview, Lincolnview, Van Wert, Wayne Trace, and Paulding.

Between the girls and boys games there was a fast-paced three point contest. Haley Fox of New Haven won the girls 3-point basket contest. For the boys, Quentin Vance of Paulding won the 3 point contest in a face-off with Ohio co-player Kyle Kauser after tying the first round.

The Slam Dunk contest was very entertaining with both Ohio and Indiana players crunching the rim. Lowell Griggs of New Haven ended up winning the contest, but it was entertaining to see “Big” Steve McElvene try and dunk the ball blindfolded. He was also helping one of the Ohio players mash the basket.

The girls game started the night at 6 pm with it staying close most of the time. The first half ended with Ohio in the the lead by 31-24. The Buckeyes continued the

tradition in the third quarter but found themselves falling behind in tight fourth period. The Indiana girls finished the game on top 59-57 at the buzzer.

Toby Carman received the MVP Indiana award and Christine Steman received the MVP for Ohio.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe boys game followed the 3-point shot contest. Quickly the Indiana team racked up the points. Ohio pulled back in the second period but still had a deficit by the half at 40 – 35.

The third quarter was nearly tied. “Hallelujah!” The Ohio fans exclaimed. It was a revival in the fourth quarter for the Buckeyes. The comeback, led by Kyle Kauser of Paulding, changed with a little more than two minutes left in the game. The final score was 77-79 with the Buckeyes winning the boys game.
