Midwest Community Federal Credit Union Donates $2,500 to United Way of Defiance County

Midwest Community Federal Credit Union recently presented a $2,500 donation to United Way of Defiance County’s Backpack Buddy program following its annual General Motors Car Show.
The annual car show is held to honor Midwest Community’s roots and history. The Credit Union began serving employees and families of the General Motors plant in Defiance and continues to celebrate that history and connection to the community through the event.
In addition to bringing together car enthusiasts and community members, the show serves as a fundraising opportunity for the Backpack Buddy program. Funds raised during this year’s event totaled $1,500, and through Midwest Community’s partnership with Visa, an additional $1,000 was contributed, bringing the total donation to $2,500.
Backpack Buddy is one of United Way of Defiance County’s internal programs and provides kid-friendly, nutritious food each weekend during the school year for children who qualify for free and reduced lunches or opt into the program. The program serves students at all elementary schools in Defiance County and has been helping keep local children fed since 2010, packing nearly 500 bags each week for students in need.
“Giving back to the communities we serve is at the heart of who we are,” said Emily Schlegel Community Development Manager. “We’re proud that an event honoring our history can also make a meaningful impact on local children and families.”
Midwest Community Federal Credit Union is committed to supporting the communities it serves through volunteerism, partnerships, financial education and charitable giving. As a local, member-owned financial institution, Midwest Community is proud to invest in programs and organizations that make a lasting difference throughout the region.
