Ohio’s Astronauts Highlighted in Nicely, Hinsch’s New Book

Author Lisa Nicely and illustrator Bill Hinsch will visit two Defiance County libraries in March to discuss and sign their new book, “Ohio, Cradle of Astronauts: How 26 Buckeyes Blazed the Trail for Life OFF Earth.”

The duo will present at Johnson Memorial Library, 116 W. High St., Hicksville, on March 2 from 10:30 a.m.-noon, and at Defiance Public Library, 320 Fort St., on March 7 from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. The presentations are free and open to all; no registration is needed.

The recently released book takes readers on an awe-inspiring journey through the lives and legacies of some of Ohio’s most intrepid space explorers. From John Glenn’s historic orbit around the Earth, to the contemporary heroes pushing the boundaries of space travel, the book celebrates 26 Buckeye-state astronauts whose stellar achievements have left an indelible mark on NASA and the world.

Nicely is a Defiance resident and an award-winning journalist who has reported on a wide range of topics in Ohio for decades. She is a graduate of Kent State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Hinsch is a Perrysburg-based artist who was one of three selected to paint Ohio’s astronauts for the Statehouse Rotunda in Columbus. His work can be found in many prestigious locations, including the Pentagon and Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
