NEW COMMUNITY PANTRY IN HARLAN INDIANA

The United Steelworkers Local 715 Next Generation committee, in partnership with the Harlan Christian Youth Center, is happy to announce the opening of a new community pantry located at the Youth Center at 17308 2nd Street, Harlan, Indiana.  “Give what you can, take what you need” is the foundation of the community pantry network that we are joining, led by Forward Indiana.  Next Gen committee members and the Youth Center will be responsible for the upkeep of the pantry, and being sure it is appropriately stocked for the different seasons of the year, but everyone in the community is welcome to participate.

Recommended items include, but are not limited to: peanut butter, pop top soups and canned items, microwave meals, granola bars, fruit cups, boxed meals, etc.  Sanitary items, like toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, menstrual products, and diapers are also helpful. Hats, gloves, and socks are also appreciated during the winter.

A special thank you goes out to Woodlan High School students Maggie Garcia and Katy Niles from Mr. Stebing’s art class for painting the mural on the cabinet.

This is the second community pantry USW Local 715 has placed in eastern Allen County, joining one already in place at the Local 715 union hall located at 4311 Elm Street, Woodburn, Indiana.
