Heritage Lions Club Installs New Officers

The Heritage Lions held their annual installation of new officers May 10 at the Hoagland Community Center. Each person stood up as Past District Governor Al Arnold swore the new officers in.

The new Heritage Lions Club officers for 2022-2023 are:

Tom Wolf – President

Jan Hockemeyer – First Vice President

Jack Clear – Second Vice President

Cindy Wolf – Secretary

Dick Weber – Treasurer

Tom Bullerman – Lion Tamer

Ed Coy – Tail Twister

Ken Sorg – Board Member

Larry Smith – Board Member

The ice cream committee discussed several issues for the coming season. Members were encouraged to sign up for shifts for Hoagland Days and other upcoming events. The first ice cream event was Hoagland Baseball Opening Day, Saturday May 14.

Past District Governor Al Arnold encouraged all officers to attend the Lions training sessions in Bluffton. He is taking a van of volunteers to the Indiana State Fair in August, where Lions volunteers will help sell tickets. Mr. Arnold encouraged the Heritage Lions to get involved in vision screening in the schools. Children are screened in grades 1, 3, 5, and 8. Lions Club members conduct these simple screenings and have caught sight problems in some of the young children.

Outgoing President Larry Smith thanked the club for the past two years that he was President. In spite of the pandemic, the Heritage Lions were quite active and were able to raise a surprising amount of money for local groups.

Incoming President Tom Wolf listed his main goals for the coming year. He wants to find new members so the Heritage Lions can do more for the community. With more members the Lions could start new projects, and even work with school kids on service projects. Mr. Wolf also would like to start having meals together as a club again. Larry Smith then called the meeting to a close.

The Heritage Lions motto is “We Serve” and we welcome anyone who wishes to help their local community to contact a Heritage Lion.
