New Haven High School took part in The IHSAA Regional this past Saturday at Carroll.  We were able to finish 4th as a team out of 18, and we advanced 5 to semi-state.  We had 3 champs and two 4ths.  Here is how our wrestlers competed:

106- Julianna Ocampo continued her dominant ways.  She pinned her first round opponent to advance to the semi-finals.  In the semis, she had a controlling 6-1 victory.  She dominated her opponent in the finals with a 15-4 major decision to become a regional champion!!!

113- Easton Doster made it back to back champs for the second week in a row.  He pinned his first opponent, which put him one short of tying the pin record.  He didn’t waste time in the semis, with a quick pin to tie the pin record at 28.  In the finals, he made quick work of his opponent with another pin.  That pin puts him at the top of the season pins list with 29 pins, and also puts him at the top of the podium as a regional champ.

120- Karrington Cooper got in a whole early, but was able to storm back with superior conditioning and neutral wrestling.  He eventually fell short losing 8-10.  Great season Coop!!!

126- Brayden Clauser made the eventual champion work.  He fought the whole match losing 0-9.  Great season Brayden.

132- John Bussard came out strong with a 7-1 lead.  He slipped up in the second and lost by pin.  John will learn from this and get better.  What a great freshman season!!!

138- Aidan Elkins faced an opponent that he had been pinned by in two previous bouts.  He wrestled his best this time, but he was out lasted through all three periods.  Great effort and great season!!

145- Elijah Miller stunned his first round opponent with a chin whip pin in the first to move on to semi-state.  He wrestled tough in his next two matches, but lost both to place 4th.  Good luck next week!!

152- Aidan Carter gave the eventual champion all he wanted.  Going into the second, only trailing 0-2, Aidan was still in the match.  He fought hard, but ended up losing by pin.  Great season and a really strong finish.

170- Camari Kirk represents the senior class by himself, and he represented well.  He pinned in the first round.  Then he followed that up with an impressive win in the semis.  He was able to set up a nice headlock to pin his opponent in the finals.  At the end, Kirk stands at the top of the podium as a regional champ!!

182- Connor Mason wrestled tough into the second period.  He was in the match, when he lost by pin.  Connor had a great season and a strong finish.

195- Matt Poiry gave his opponent all he wanted, as he always does.  Matt fights like no other, but lost in the first round.  Can’t wait to see what the off-season and next year bring for Matt.

220- Dazhon Ware is basically a first year wrestle.  I’ve watched him grow all season.  He gave a good fight, but he lost in the opening round.  A good off-season awaits Dazhon.  Great season!!!

285- Josh Clark finished the day in 4th place.  He pinned his first opponent to move on to semi state.  He lost a close battle in the semis.  He was fighting through an injury in the 3/4th place match and a ultimately lost to finish 4th.  Good luck next week!!!
