State Patrol Investigating Serious Injury Crash on Mansfield Road

Ayersville – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred today, September 7, 2020 at approximately 1035AM. The crash occurred on Mansfield Road in the intersection of Kinner Road in Highland Township. 

A 2003 Buick, being driven by Larry D. Donaldson, age 61 of Continental, Ohio was southbound on Kinner Road. A 2017 Dodge pickup being driven by Steven B. Corwin, age 56 of Defiance, Ohio was eastbound on Mansfield Road. The investigation showed that Mr. Donaldson failed to yield the right of way and entered into the intersection and was struck by the Corwin vehicle. Both vehicles then traveled off of the southeast corner of the intersection and into a small ditch. Both vehicles were heavily damaged as a result of the crash. 

Mr. Donaldson was transported from the scene by Defiance EMS to Defiance Pro-Medica hospital where he was subsequently flown to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo with serious injuries. Mr. Corwin was treated at the scene. A passenger in the Corwin vehicle, Shelle L. Corwin, age 45 of Defiance, Ohio was transported to Defiance Pro-Medica Hospital with minor injuries. Mr. Donaldson was not wearing a safety belt and the time of the crash. Both occupants of the Corwin vehicle were wearing safety belts.

The Patrol was assisted at the crash scene by the Defiance City Fire Department, Defiance County Sheriff’s Office and Highland Township EMS and Fire Department. The crash remains under investigation at this time.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages drivers and occupants to always wear their seat belts and to never drive distracted or impaired.
