A FISHING STORY

By: Stan Jordan

For weeks I have been asking Pastor Rick Grimes to get me a fishing story and he came in the office and told me about this trip and the fellows who went along.

This is a picture of Rick and two 25 pounders, they are Flathead catfish and came out of the Maumee. Now this was just a few days ago.

Jamie is Rick’s brother from Florida, Eric is from Alabama and Jake is a nephew. These boys had been hearing so much about these big catfish in the river, so they came up for a visit and fishing.

The four boys started fishing about 5:00 p.m., each in a kayak. Rick said they were fishing for some bait first. They started fishing and they didn’t get any bites for a while, then Rick caught a big carp, well over 20 lbs. And some small catfish 5 – 6 lbs  and a couple of sheepshead. They fished till about midnight and then gave it up. They had a camper in the church parking lot.

They went to Rick’s fishing hole the second night. The boys wanted to fish from the banks and Rick stayed with his kayak. Things started slow, but Rick had a big hit early. He pulled Rick’s kayak all over the area. This one weighed 25 lbs., a big Flathead.

After things settled down, Rick caught a few small catfish and sheepshead. Then he got another hit and he wrestled that big fellow for a while and by golly, he weighed 25 lbs. That is both of those big fellows with Rick in the picture.

He said all of  this was with 8 lb. Test Strenline, you just have to make sure your drag is ok. He said all together, he caught about 100 lbs of fish, but those visitors never got a bite. They had high expectations but they had a good trip and visit.

Rick said he sent them home with about 40 lbs. Of catfish and some pictures.

See ya!
