At Defiance High School on Saturday, February 20, the Antwerp Lady Archers competed against Ayersville in the sectional final game. Ayersville is the top seeded team with a bye in the bracket while Antwerp had just come off a win against Fairview. In the first period, the Lady Archers struggled and it wasn’t until the second quarter, just before the half, that they rallied with points by Peyton Short, Hope Smith, Rachel Williamson, and others, coming close to the rival’s score.

The second half was not pretty for the Archers as they struggled and hit with turnovers. The Ayersville 5’11” senior Molly Hammersmith stopped many shots under the basket, holding back Kiana Recker from her normal scoring. Many fouls, blocks and jump balls is what kept the Pilots on top.

The game ended 45-28 with Ayersville moving on to Districts.

Antwerp finished their season with an 11-13 record.
