Woodlan started the game at the Antwerp Court on Friday, February 19 in a frenzy of three point baskets. At one point, the score was 20-1 and Antwerp was wondering what in the world they were running into?! The Warriors do not have a spectacular record—very similar to Antwerp’s this season as a matter of fact, but the Warriors were running away with score. Austin Fancher had one of his best quarters ever with 12 points. Aaron Hahn also had an incredible time with 9 points from three points in the first period. Ben Schwartz also scored 2 3-point baskets in that time. Points-wise, Antwerp wasn’t poor, but in comparison, it wasn’t even close. Josh Poulson did quite well under pressure. He had a pretty good game. When he was fouled, he scored all of the baskets he was allowed. Sam Williamson scored a 3 point basket and he did fine on the free throws as he neared the record for most points in a season. The first period ended 12-29 with Woodlan pulling way ahead early.

The second period was a great one for Antwerp—and Woodlan. Williamson was fouled numerous times and din’t miss any of the free throws in this period—scoring six. Cole Seslar posted his first points on the board when he scored 3 of 4 points from the foul line, and Matt Jones added his first points with a 2 and 3 point field goals. The Warriors were still on fire with Blake Williams kicking in his first points with 5 free throws and 2 field goals. Deontae Biggs also added points and so did Andrew Krahn. The half ended with Woodlan still ascending with a score of 55-31. This halftime score for the guest team was higher than many of their total game scores. Coach David Randall wasn’t sure what was going on with his team and he wasn’t disappointed.

The second half was much calmer for Woodlan and in this time Antwerp outscored the Warriors, but they couldn’t even come close to making up the deficit from the first two periods. Here, Matthew Dooley and Keaton Altimus both hit three point baskets. Josh Poulson was back in adding points and so was Sam Williamson. Biggs was the top scorer for Woodlan in the last half along with Cole Weiss. The game ended with Woodlan on top, 75-52.

Antwerp’s Sam Williamson is very close to breaking the school record for total points. Chad Hormann in 1985 has held the record for the last 30 years. Sam is now at 1138 career points and within 11 points of creating a new record! We are watching closely as the tournaments begin.
