Public Invited to Come and Celebrate Bird Ohio Day at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area

The Ceremony will be Held May 10.

Wildlife watchers and enthusiasts are invited to attend a ceremony celebrating the first Bird Ohio Day May 10, 2014 at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.

Bird Ohio Day is a resolution drafted by Black Swamp Bird Observatory and sponsored by Senator Randy Gardner. On March 20, 2014 the Ohio State Senate adopted the resolution designating the second Saturday of May 2014 as Bird Ohio Day.

The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at the Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, 13229 West State Route 2, Oak Harbor Ohio. Visitors should proceed toward the north lakefront parking lots. The Division of Wildlife’s tent, where the ceremony will be held, is located at the west end of the parking lots.

The ceremony will include the presentation of the resolution and remarks by Senator Randy Garner and by special guests, including Scott Zody, Chief of the Division of Wildlife.

Bird Ohio Day seeks to raise awareness of the beauty of birds, the value of bird tourism to Ohio and the importance of being good stewards of the habitats migratory birds depend on for their survival.

The ceremony is co-sponsored by the Black Swamp Bird Observatory, Lake Erie Shores & Islands, Maumee Bay Lodge & Conference Center, Destination Toledo, and the Division of Wildlife.

The ODNR Division of Wildlife is the state agency designated to conserve and improve fish and wildlife resources and their habitats for all Ohioans.
