Raiders win first game of Regionals at Bowling Green.

Wayne Trace won a big victory against Ayersville last week, moving them on to the Regional match against Buckeye Central High School on Tuesday, March 11 at Bowling Green State University.

The first round of Regionals shown Wayne Trace on fire, outscoring the Bucks right off the bat. Between the Linder brothers there were 62 points scored throughout the game. Devin Wenzlick helped get points on the scoreboard from under the glass. Ending the first quarter it was 22-9 with the Raiders outpacing the competition, and the Linder brothers nailing the 3 point baskets.

The next quarter was much better for Buckeye Central, as Cade Kaple was getting on board. With 19 points scored in the period, they gave the Raiders a run for the money. It finished 28-44.

Interesting enough the third quarter was a little odd. The Bucks came back from halftime with the momentum swung to their side of the scoreboard. At one point they narrowed the lead of Wayne Trace down to eleven. The game was not over and this was no time for the Raiders to let down their guard. Soon enough Luke Miller and Ethan Linder were able to pick up several turnovers from the Bucks and the tide had turned. Both teams added 16 points the board in the third.

The fourth quarter was all Raiders. I’m not sure if Buckeye Central just gave up or if Wayne Trace really turned up the heat, but they finished the game with almost a 30 point difference, ending the game at 80-51.

Score by Quarter:
Buckeye Central: 9 19 16 7 = 51
Wayne Trace: 22 22 16 20 = 80

Following the Wayne Trace vs Buckeye Central was Crestview vs Ottawa Hills. The Knights won 49-26. Wayne Trace will compete against their old nemesis – Crestview – for the Regional Title on Friday, March 14 at 7pm at Bowling Green State University.
