The Lady Raiders competed against Edgerton following the first game of Sectionals on Wednesday, February 20 at Paulding. This was the rematch against the Bulldogs that took place at the Palace last Thursday in a game that went into double overtime.

Matches like this are never easy and this one was no different. Both teams played very consistent and the score favored the home team in this match. The first time Wayne Trace surpassed the Edgerton, outside the beginning of the first quarter was about 4 minutes into the game with a jump shot by Erin Mohr, who also had an outstanding game, in the second quarter. With the team rallying, the group pulled together and held fast. The second quarter finished at 27-28 and the Bulldogs had the lead.

The second half once again started with team from the north gaining momentum and Devin Stark hitting 3 point shots, it was hard for the Lady Raiders to stop them. Both the third and fourth quarters had lots of fouls and this sent Lauren Speice to the line. While there she nailed 11 of 13 baskets. Speice also had the most rebounds of the game at 10.

Desperation ensued for Wayne Trace and the crowd knew it as they kept yelling “foul her.” Close basketball games coming down to the last minute typically have lots of fouling at the end and the ladies did this trying to get possession of the ball. One of the problems with this plan was realized when Stark was the one being fouled and she scored 9 points from the line for the Bulldogs. The home team finished the third quarter with three points in the lead at 39-42.

Both teams did very well and the final score was only 3 points different at 56-59. Edgerton will move on to play in the championship game on Saturday.

This was the last game for Lauren Speice, Brooke Wilcox, Brenda Feasby, Madi Poling and Sylvia Young that these seniors will play for Wayne Trace.
