Hit & Run to a Street Sign Investigation Results in the seizure of over 5lbs of Marijuana & Lands Two New Haven Residents in Jail

On the 22nd of January 2014 around 2:00pm an officer of the New Haven Police Department was following up on a reported hit and run accident to a street sign that had occurred previously. The New Haven Officer was provided information that the vehicle that struck the street sign was seen at a particular house in the 2000 block of Tweedwood Circle in the Tanglewood Housing addition. The officer made contact with one of the residence who answered the door. Once engaged in conversation with that resident the officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana and the resident slammed the door shut causing injury to the officer.

Other officers arrived on scene at which time the two residents of that house came outside and surrendered to the police. New Haven Detectives obtained a search warrant and upon searching the residence discovered just under 6lbs of Marijuana in separate packages, in addition to a large amount of marijuana that was in the toilet in an apparent attempt to destroy it. In addition to the marijuana police uncovered Heroin, Ecstasy, drug paraphernalia, and a large amount of cash. The two residents, listed below, were charged and taken to the Allen County Jail for the following charges:

Blake M. Colbourne (age 23):

– Possession of Marijuana (Felony)

– Dealing in Marijuana (Felony)

– Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony, Two Counts)

– Battery to a Police Officer (Felony)

John A. Lopez (age 29):

– Possession of Marijuana (Felony)

– Dealing in Marijuana (Felony)

– Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony, Two Counts)
