BE DOERS OF THE WORD

**James 1:22-25 (NIV):**  

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.  

“Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.  

“But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.”

In these verses, James emphasizes the importance of not just hearing God’s Word but actively putting it into practice. It’s a call to action, urging believers to be doers of the Word rather than passive listeners. The metaphor of looking in a mirror illustrates how forgetfulness can lead to a disconnect between what one knows and how one behaves. By continuously reflecting on and applying God’s teachings, believers can experience true freedom and blessings in their lives. This passage serves as a reminder that genuine faith is demonstrated through actions.

We attend services regularly, and in many instances, we say to ourselves or others, “That was a good word today.” But more often than not, we fail to put that word into action. We then place that sermon on the mental shelf of good sermons, where it stays until we forget the shelf exists. Then the wheels of life go round and round, along with another failed opportunity to experience the fulfillment of putting God’s word into practice.

You will never know the fullness of God unless you put His words into practice. This Scripture clearly tells us in verse 25 that if we hear God’s word and do what it says, we will be blessed in all we do. So don’t forget to put His word into practice this week and experience God’s blessings. God bless you!
