I want to thank all of you that follow The Left Turn here in the West Bend News and my daily sports blog on Facebook, Ohio Sports Blitz. I want to wish you and yours a great New Year.

My sources tell me 2024 will be a breakout year for Midwest short track racing here in the Tri-state.  Different National and regional racing series will be expanding to new racetracks in our area. I personally am looking forward to the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars coming to Fremont Speedway. The track has new owners and a promotional team. That same team will be helping with the reopening of Millstream Speedway in Findlay with its new owners. Excitement is building in the racing community guessing what classes and series might be racing at Millstream when it opens. At the Rumble In Fort Wayne, I ran into Barry Marlow who has the Great Lakes Sprints and NRA Sprint Invaders. He’s excited about having shows at some new tracks. New tracks for the series might include Indiana. Once things are finalized, I will have his announcement here.

Drew Jack and the Midwest Dirt Compact Touring Series announced this week, The 5th Annual Nightmare on Bowie Street will be at the Hartford Speedway on September 21st, at 6:00 p.m. The event will feature the Midwest Dirt Compacts, 2nd Annual Kory Conner Stock Car Race, Crown Vics, and 100 Lap Nightmare on Bowie Street Enduro. This event will feature kids’ events such as Coin Toss, Power Wheels Races, and more.

The Chili Bowl Nationals are coming up this week. Non midget drivers from other types of racing are still scrambling to get rides for this huge event in Tulsa that really kicks off 2024 for racing. Darin Naida a 4th generation local Sprint car driver, found out due to last minute problems the Binks Motorsports Team wouldn’t be able to compete at the Chili Bowl. It took less than 24 hours before he found a ride for the classic. He will be driving the Morton #10m for Blane, Kade and Chance Morton.

If you’re a racing fan and didn’t make it to the Rumble in Fort Wayne you missed out on two great nights of racing.

Keep your wheels down. Ron out! www.ohiosportsblitz@yahoo.com
