Train Semi Accident

An east bound Norfolk Southern Freight Train struck a south bound semi tractor trailer, at the State Line Crossing, east of Edgerton, Indiana, at 3:48pm, on Thursday. The driver of the semi, saw the train and realized he was going to get hit. He exited the cab of his truck, prior to impact to the semi box trailer. The driver was not injured. The semi-trailer was empty. The railroad crew was able to get the train stopped east of Twp. Rd 11. The engineer and conductor of the train, were not injured. The rear half of the semi-trailer was on the northside of the crossing and the semi and other half of the trailer was on the southside of the crossing.

The Payne Fire and EMS was dispatched to the scene. The Allen County, Indiana Sheriff’s Office and the Norfolk Southern Police Agency were handling the scene. Paulding County EMA assisted as well. The crossing west of the state line, the state line and Twp. Rd. 11 were blocked for some time, due to the investigation, repairs needed to the train engine and to the railroad crossing signals. This is the third such accident at that crossing in three years.
