John R. “Bob” Weisenburger Sr.

OAKWOOD, OH:

John R. “Bob” Weisenburger Sr., age 86, of Oakwood, OH, died the day before his 87th birthday on Saturday, September 30, 2023. He was the son of the late Donald D. and Mazie Pauline Weisenburger (McCullough), born on October 1, 1936, in Oakwood, OH. On July 23, 1955, he and Julia Ann Tumey were united in marriage in Jackson, MI and spent 67 years together before her death in 2022. Bob obtained his license in barbering and began working in Lima in 1954 and opened Bob’s Barber Shop in Oakwood in 1959; and he continued working until his accident in June. He also owned and operated Bob & Julie’s Restaurant for a number of years. Bob also was a volunteer fireman with the Oakwood Fire Department and was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Oakwood Development Club.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bob is preceded in death by his grandson, Wayne “Fred” Newsome Jr.; great grandson, Andrew Newsome, and brother, Fredrick Weisenburger.

John leaves behind his sons, John (Deborah) Weisenburger Jr. and James (Nancy) Weisenburger; daughter, Shelley (Wayne) Newsome, all of Oakwood; brother, Ronald Weisenburger; five grandchildren, Robb (Jennifer Dukes) Weisenburger, Mindy Newsome, Kristie (Todd) Schweller, Kyle Weisenburger, and adopted granddaughter, Sherri Fitzsimmons; nine great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Twin Oaks United Methodist Church, 201 Harmon St., Oakwood, OH 45873 with Rev. Stan Harmon officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Thursday between 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, in honor of Bob.
