THE GAME

Penny For Your Thoughts By: Nancy Whitaker

I hear The Mad Ants are changing locations from Ft Wayne to Indianapolis. I have watched them a couple times and here is my two cents worth  on the games I went to.

A few summers ago I attended an Elvis show at a long term care facility.  Also going on was a Silent Auction and I bid on a couple of items.

I wound up being the highest bidder with 6 Mad Ants Basketball tickets being the prize. The price was good and even though I wasn’t sure who the Mad Ants were, I wanted to go find out.

The basketball game we ( my friend Denny and I ) decided to go to was on Sunday Nov. 20. against Sioux Falls Sky Rockets.

The day was nice and sunny and the drive to the Fort Wayne Coliseum was fun as Denny and I sang to the top of our lungs.

After a delicious lunch and some shopping at a Farmers Market, we made our way to the ballgame. Oh my! I had forgotten how big the Coliseum actually was.

We were pleasantly surprised to find out we had good seats and settled in to see what the Mad Ants could do. We were not disappointed with them or the many things the staff does to entertain the crowd.

Of course, there were perky cheerleaders, a Karate Demo, a dance time for kids, a ball toss and so much more to see.

Once the game started, of course I “root, root, rooted” for the home team of Fort Wayne.

I hollered, cheered, jumped, and clapped  to show my support. I may not be from Indiana, but I wanted these Mad Ants to win!

During halftime, we took a stroll through the food venders and were glad we had already ate. I did break down and bought a bottle of water and since it was rather pricey, I savored every little sip.

When it was all said and done the Mad Ants won and Denny and I were pleasantly surprised at what fun we had.

In fact, we used 2 more of our tickets later on in the winter  where the Ants played a team from Iowa who were exceptionally good players.

Again I got caught up in the game and by the time it was over I was hoarse, my legs hurt from jumping and I felt as if I had helped cheer them to a victory.

Now we have 2 tickets left and don’t know what game we will go to, but we are really looking forward to it.

I don’t claim to be smart about sports, but basketball I can follow. It is fun to just leave your troubles at the door and scream until you are hoarse.

We are now considering buying season tickets for the Mad Ants, because everything from singing the Star  Spangled  Banner to the last basket shot was so much fun.

Any sporting event you attend this year, make it a fun time, let your hair down and yell for your team. Success is beautiful to behold.

Do you like basketball? Have you ever saw the Mad Ants play? Do you get Wild and crazy at  games? Try it and let me know and I’ll give you a Penny for Your  Thoughts.
