The Great Lakes Traditional Sprints returned to Limaland Motorsports Park last Friday evening. Thomas Meseraull passed the leaders on lap 5 of the 25-lap feature after a caution. Ricky Lewis would do a side job on the leader and would pass Meseraull on lap 12. On lap 20, Meseraull began to reel in the Lewis by running the high side of the track in turns 3 and 4 and the bottom of turns 1 and 2. The leaders took the white flag, and faced lapped traffic to work through and Meseraull would once again use the top of the track in turns 3 and 4. Lewis would slide up the track, opening the door for Thomas Meseraull to cross over and get the win by half a car length at the finish line. Finishing 2nd was Ricky Lewis, and Lee Underwood was 3rd. The fastest qualifier for the GLTS was Dustin Ingle, 00:13.237.  Winners in the other divisions were Modifieds Shane O’Connor, Dirt Trucks Rolly Heyder, and the May 19th make up feature for the Thunder Stocks went to Jarrod Klay.

To the east of Lima at Attica Raceway Park, Late Model driver, Rusty Schlenk had to battle several other top drivers, including five-time track champion Ryan Missler to get the victory. This was Schlenk’s third win of the year at Attica, the 38th of his career to sit atop the division’s all-time win list. Cap Henry found his way back to the winner circle in the 410 Winged-sprint division. He had to make some daring moves in lapped traffic and drove to his first win of the year at Attica. Henry, Attica’s 2020 track champion claimed his fourth overall victory of 2023 having won three at Fremont Speedway. The victory moves him into serious contention for the AFCS title. In the 305-Sprints, Bryan Sebetto fought through traffic to grab his first win of the year, the 14th of his career in the division at Attica.

Saturday was busy on the asphalt tracks, Plymouth Motor Speedway had their first night of the Grand Slam, a series of 4 races this summer for the Outlaw Late Models. Round one was won by one of the area’s favorite drivers and Outlaw Late Model ace, Phil Bozell. Round two will take place Saturday, June 24th.

Angola Motorsports Park featured their 4 weekly classes with action all evening in each. At the end of the night your four winners were Late Model Hunter Jack, Modified Jordan Gatton, Street Stock Tristan Crago and FWD Chip Heintzelman.

The USAC Indiana Midget Week is currently underway. Some of the biggest racing stars in USAC are in the Hoosier state, June 4th-11th. Opening night at Tri-State Speedway was won by Ohio’s Jacob Denny, who was the National points leader until Wednesday in Gas City. Monday June 5th the series moved to Circle City Speedway in Indy where Buddy Koloid got the checker. Koloid was second the night before. Tuesday June 6th the drivers and crews had a day of rest before racing 5 straight nights. Wednesday Midget Week was in our backyard at Gas City I-69 Speedway. The Ohio Sports Blitz was there. 33 USAC Midgets were on hand. The track was fast and for the most part smooth. 25-year-old Logan Seavey out of California charged out of nowhere to take the lead and had over a 2 second lead on the field in the feature but after a caution with 4 laps remaining, he fought to keep it. He ended up winning by a car length and getting the $4000.00 first place prize money. I was happy to see and meet so many of you from our area. A big thank you to one of the area’s top racing promoters, Larry Boos for your hospitality. Next week I will do a recap of Indiana Midget Week and let you know the winners from Lincoln Park, Bloomington, Lawrenceburg, and Kokomo.

I will recap The Eldora Dream for Late Models next week that took place June 8th-10th. Let’s see which driver came away $128,000.00 richer. Until next week, keep your wheels down. Ron Out! www.facebook.com/ohiosportsblitz
