Warrior boys, girls get wins; Strautman Honored

WOODBURN – It was a good week for the Woodlan boys and girls basketball teams last week as the Warriors picked up victories for both squads in non-league play.

On the girls side, the Lady Warriors recorded a 59-33 victory at Prairie Heights on Thursday evening.

Woodlan jumped out to a 16-3 lead at the end of eight minutes of action and cruised the rest of the way to improve to 19-4 on the season.

The Lady Warriors added 24 markers in the second stanza to expand the margin to 40-12 at the midway point before picking up 15 more third quarter points in widening the gap to 55-21 entering the final period.

Elmer Strautman started in 1957 at Harlan high school he retired from Woodlan in 1997. He was honored by the Woodlan fans on Saturday night including several from Harlan High School!

Prairie Heights drops to 1-21 in all games on the year.

Meanwhile, the Woodlan boys basketball team also picked up a win last week as the Warriors defeated Whitko 54-41 just outside of Woodburn.

The Warriors took a 12-10 lead at the end of one period before outscoring the Wildcats 13-8 in the second stanza for a 25-18 halftime advantage.

Whitko cut into the deficit in the third quarter, picking up 15 points compared to Woodlan’s ten as the Wildcats trimmed the Warrior lead to 35-33 entering the final stanza.

However, Woodlan put the game away with a 19-point fourth quarter while limiting Whitko to eight in setting up the 54-41 victory.

Woodlan improves to 14-4 on the year with the victory while Whitko falls to 2-12 on the season.
