MILITARY HISTORY IN PAULDING COUNTY

Paul D. Yager, was born in Paulding, Ohio August 25, 1892. The son of John O.,  born in 1858, and Clara L. (Emmanuel), born in 1868, Yager. This couple was married in 1891. 

By 1900 the couple was living in Antwerp, Ohio. John was working as a Fire Insurance Agent. The couple had four children, Paul born in 1892, Greachen J. born in 1894, Jeanne born in 1896 and Robert E. born in 1901. 

By 1910, the Yager family moved to Paulding, residing on Coupland Street. All four children were in school and John was still in the insurance business. On June 5, 1917, Paul went to the north precinct in Paulding and registered for the draft. Paul was listed as single, tall stout build, brown eyes and brown hair. Paul was working in Saginaw, Michigan for the American Cash Register Company as a salesman. 

On September 2, 1918, Paul joined the National Army out of Paulding. He was assigned to serve with the 36th Company, 9th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. He served with this unit until October 2, 1918. He was assigned to Company D. 5th Developmental Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade until he was honorably discharged December 6, 1918. 

By 1920, Paul moved back home to Paulding and lived with his parents on Coupland Street working as a loftsman. On February 11, 1920, Paul  married a school teacher, a gal named Marianne Tate. They were married in Paulding by the Rev. R. Lincoln Lung. 

The daughter of Samuel J. and Forest Rose (Ayers) Tate. Marianne went to college at Western College for Women at Oxford, Ohio. Paul and Marianne moved to 1920 North Williams Street in Paulding. 

In 1921, the couple was blessed with the birth of a son Paul D. and in 1923 blessed with the birth of a daughter, Barbara. The couple moved to Van Wert, Ohio where Marianne took a job as a school teacher in the Van Wert school system. Paul worked as a clerk for the Railroad. They lived on 343 South Avenue Van Wert. In 1934, Paul’s father, John passed away and is buried in Live Oak Cemetery. 

By 1940, the Yager family was still living in Van Wert. On January 8, 1940, Paul passed away. He was buried in Live Oak Cemetery Lot 211-A, Grave 3. In 1947, Paul’s mother Clara passed away. She was buried in Live Oak Cemetery. Marianne became a care supervisor. She continued her career working as a social worker at the Marsh Foundation and also Paulding Juvenile Social Worker. She remarried a fella named Robert Wheeler. He passed away in 1961. 

Marianne passed away in 1983 and was buried beside Paul in Live Oak. Son Paul, became a Major in the Air Force in World War Two. Long career in business administration. He passed away in 2010. Barbara became a teacher and moved to Iowa. She passed away in 2012. Both were cremated and the location of their ashes are unknown.
