Lady Warriors advance to sectional championship

BUTLER – The Woodlan Lady Warriors advanced to Monday’s sectional championship with a 12-2 victory over Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Saturday in high school softball action.

Woodlan scored in every at-bat in posting the six-inning, run-rule victory with Alyssa Harvey leading the Lady Warrior offense with four hits, a run scored and two runs batted in.

Woodlan put up two runs in the first before adding three in the second and one in the third for a 6-0 advantage.

After Bishop Luers scored twice in the fourth, the Lady Warriors wrapped up the win by picking up two in the home half of the fourth before scoring three times in the fifth and one more in the sixth.

Jade Lichty added three hits, scored twice and drove in two runs for Woodlan while Mya Jones picked up two hits, scored twice and had one run batted in.

Avah Smith, Abby Horn and Lexi Metzger also picked up a hit each for the Lady Warriors while Austin Gaff scored three times for Woodlan. Alivia Ulmer, Briana Roney, Adrienne Spieth and Lillian Riley scored the remaining Warrior runs.

Avah Smith also chipped in three runs batted in and Metzger drove in one run.

Abby Horn picked up the win on the mound for Woodlan, fanning a dozen Bishop Luers hitters while giving up two hits and two unearned runs.
