PAULDING, OH:
Patricia A. Paulus, age 72, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at her residence.
Pat was born on July 11, 1949 in Paulding, OH to the late Donald and Ruth (Riggenbach) Paulus. Pat was valedictorian of the Paulding High School Class of 1967. She received a degree in Botany at Miami University, Oxford, OH. She was a stellar academic and received many awards for her teaching and work with service organizations within the university setting. She received her master’s degree from Michigan State University.
For two years, Pat was a professor of biology at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. She then took a position as a professor of biology at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX, where she served for 25 years.
Pat lived a wonderful life in Fort Worth, where she enjoyed a large circle of friends and her beloved golden retrievers, TJ and Lincoln. She was active in dog therapy groups and took Lincoln to visit children in hospitals. She also was a volunteer for the Crisis Intervention Center.
Pat retired to her farm in Paulding, where she became an active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She was a passionate supporter of the Friends of Felines Rescue Center (FFRC) in Defiance, OH. She actively worked to support the environment and placed her farm in the NRCS permanent federal wetlands easement program. The land will be a protected natural environment for plants and animals indefinitely.
Pat is survived by cousins: Janice Cave, Fort Wayne, IN; Nellie (Byron) Hooley, Fort Wayne, IN; Joyce (Glen) Stewart, Nashville, TN; Paul (Helen) Long, Paulding, OH; David (Nancy) Long, Paulding, OH; Carol (Tom) McGrath, Paulding, OH; aunt, Virginia Paulus, Paulding, OH; long time friend, Steve Epstein, Fort Worth, TX.
Special appreciation is expressed for the loving help given to Pat in recent years by caregivers, Jackie Pearson and Angie Maldonado, and by her dear friend Matt Strayer.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Paulding, OH. A gathering of family and friends will follow.
