Antwerp’s Small Business Saturday Starts the Holiday Off Right!

Pictured here are Chamber member, Laura Boesch; Shelley Snyder, 1st place winner of the scavenger hunt; and Sue Fowler (Chamber Treasurer).

Small Business Saturday takes place every year the Saturday following Thanksgiving & Black Friday. It started in 2010 by American Express. It was the next year that it became an official day in which to support your local community businesses. The day has grown exponentially in the past decade, making it as well-known as Black Friday. In Antwerp, the village was hopping all morning as shoppers visited the local shops, and business owners got a jump on their final numbers of the year.

Antwerp Chamber of Commerce organized a scavenger hunt again this year and many teams participated. The goal of the hunt was to use the clues given at the Welcome Center (Antwerp VFW building) to find an elf in the businesses described. Once all the elves were found and their letters recorded, team members needed to decipher the letters to write out the hidden phrase. Most all of the registered teams returned having found all the elves, and they were entered into a drawing to win Chamber Bucks. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners are the following:

1st place – Nancy Lichty & Carol Lee won $100 in Chamber Bucks

2nd place – Giraffe Nation won $50 in Chamber Bucks

3rd place – Parisot won $25 in Chamber Bucks

Shoppers also had the opportunity to win more Chamber Bucks by returning their receipts to the Welcome Center. There were two receipt drawings — if you spent over $50 at a business or any dollar amount receipt.

One winner was drawn at the end of the morning from each receipt bucket.

The following people were the winners:

Courtenay McMichael won $50 in Chamber Bucks and Shelley Snyder won $100 in Chamber Bucks.

Small Business Saturday saw some other folks get a little richer too. The winners of the Antwerp Exchange Bank money wreath raffles were Tad Pendergrast, Nancy Hughes and Lynn McNabb. Thank you to AEB for partnering with the Chamber for Small Business Saturday. Remember #shopsmall
