Gerald “Jerry” Dorsett Avery

DETROIT, MI

Gerald “Jerry” Dorsett Avery, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at home. Born in Detroit, Michigan he was the son of the late Dudley and Margaret (Gardiner) Avery. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Gar Creek Lutheran Church, New Haven. He retired in 2007 from Keefer Printing Company after 40 years. Jerry enjoyed restoring cars, camping, and the outdoors. He was also a great handyman and could fix anything. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marge Avery; daughters, Lori (David) Melcher of Woodburn and Teri (Kent) Delagrange of New Haven; brothers, Robert (Karen) Avery of Gainesville, VA and Thomas (Cindy) Avery of Panama Beach, FL; and grandchildren, Baili and Boston Melcher, and Jade and Josie Delagrange. Funeral service was 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Gar Creek Lutheran Church, 1910 N Berthaud Dr, New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Visitation was also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in the church cemetery.
