Antwerp Defeats Wayne Trace after 12 year drought

Antwerp pulled a big win over county rival, Wayne Trace, as they picked up their first win since 2008 against the Raiders. 

The Archers started strong with Carson Altimus on a 14 yard rush and Stephon Walker kicking successfully  in the point after, leaving Antwerp ahead 7-0 at the end of the first period.

In the second quarter Wayne Trace performed well with back to back touchdowns and overtook the Archers when Kyle Slade scored on a 1 yard rush. However, the kick was no good. The next points to add to the board were also by the opposing team after Cooper Wenzlick received the 15 yard pass to score. Once again, Wayne Trace could not get the kick through the goal posts. Antwerp took possession and drove down to the Raider side of the field. Altimus scored on a 1 yard rush leading up to half time and Altimus scored on the 2 point conversion, leaving half time at 15-12 and the Archers having the lead.

Antwerp’s Reid Lichty took the initiative in the third quarter on a four yard rush to add another goal on the home side, and Walker had another successful kick.

After a turnover on downs, Archers took possession from the Raiders and Altimus scored an 86 yard rush, The kick was good, once again by Walker. The Raiders were not done yet when Cooper Wenzlick picked up another touchdown on a  four yard rush. The point after kick was no good. The third quarter ended 36-18.

The fourth quarter Antwerp was able to add one more set of points on the board when Kaden Recker was able to grab a 32 yard pass. Walker successfully added another point to the final Archer score of 43-18.

The Archers had 21 First Downs, 48 Rushing Attempts and 307 rushing yards. The Raiders earned 12 first downs, 33 Rushing attempts and 157 rushing yards. Antwerp led with 4 fumbles and picked up 2. Wayne Trace fumbled twice and lost both. Antwerp led on penalties with 79 yards lost, while the Raiders had five penalties and lost 37 yards.
