Raiders rally past Apaches

The Wayne Trace ACME baseball team dug out of an early hole and rallied for a 9-5 win over Fairview in sectional action at Defiance High School on Friday.

It was all black and gold early as the Apaches scored once in the first and added three more in the third for an early 4-0 lead.

However, the Raiders rallied in the top of the third.

Wayne Trace plated four runs in the frame, highlighted with a two-run triple by Kyle Forrer, to knot the game at 4-4.

After Fairview got one run in the home half of the fifth to go on top 5-4 when Jude Shininger singled in Kolton Schooley, the red, white and blue answered in the sixth.

Lane Morehead tripled to start the Raider sixth to ignite the rally, which was far from done. With the bases loaded, Tyler Davis ripped a bases-loaded single that put Wayne Trace on top and the red, white and blue would not trail again.

The Raiders went on to plate three runs in the inning and added two more in the seventh to wrap up the 9-5 victory.

Allen Minck got the win for Wayne Trace, which improves to 8-5-1 over the summer. Minck tossed the complete game, giving up five runs and seven hits while striking out six and walking three.

Forrer had a single and triple for the Raiders while scoring twice and driving in three runs. Tyler Head added a pair of singles and Jordan Lotz posted a triple. Hunter Long and Allen Minck each scored twice for the red, white and blue with Davis driving in two runs.

Adam Lashaway took the loss for Fairview, giving up five runs (three earned), six hits and three walks while fanning three in four innings of work for the Apaches, who fall to 7-8.

Schooley topped the Fairview offense with a single and a triple while also scoring twice. Keaton Singer also picked up two runs batted in for the Apaches.
