Spotlight on Woodburn Business: Woodburn Hardware

Woodburn Hardware is the second business the Woodburn Main Street Organization is putting in the spotlight this year. It is located at 4416 Bull Rapids Rd., Woodburn, 260-632-3005. You can also find the Woodburn Hardware on Facebook and, it shares a website with the Grabill Hardware at www.grabillhardware.com.

The first hardware in Woodburn was part of Norm’s Family Center. It was a HWI Hardware. Eventually the hardware moved into the building where it is today and it became a Do It Best Hardware. Pampered Coach was the previous business in this building.

The present owners of the Woodburn Hardware are Claude Schrock, Leonard (Len) Schrock and Jim Gerig. They purchased the building in December 2020. Before purchasing the building they had rented the building for 10 years. The owners and employees have been amazed at how supportive the community has been to them ever since they took over the hardware.

These gentlemen are very proud to be a part of the Do It Best Corporation. By being a part of this corporation they are able to have competitive pricing of their store items. They also really enjoy providing hardware supplies to rural communities. Due to great local community support of the hardware the owners have been able to donate to non-profit organizations in the community and give financial support to youth and high school sports programs.

Claude Schrock has been working in the hardware business for 50 years. He started working at the Grabill Hardware when his stepfather bought the hardware. Jim Gerig started working at the Grabill Hardware while he was in high school. And Len Schrock started working at the Grabill Hardware in 1987.

Jim Gerig is the primary manager of the Woodburn Hardware. Jim got started in the hardware business when his brother told him the Grabill Hardware was in need of some help. Jim decided he would rather have a job than play high school football. When he started at the Grabill Hardware his primary jobs were cleaning the sidewalks and streets around the hardware and stocking shelves.

The Woodburn Hardware provides many special services besides all the products that are for sale in the store. The special services they provide are: screen repair for windows and doors, sharpening of chainsaw chains, scissors, and knives, rekeying lock sets, replacing glass in windows, lamp socket repairs, and pipe cutting and threading. They can also custom match interior and exterior paint colors.

The hardware puts out a catalog twice a year which shows many items that are stocked and available in the store. Customers can special order items that are not stocked in the store and have them within a week. There is also a Reward Program for those who shop regularly at the store. And twice a year there is a Shopping Giveaway drawing. The most popular items sold at the Woodburn Hardware are lawn and gardening items, tools, and paint.
