Antwerp Police

On April 9 a resident of the village called the Antwerp Police about the laws on fishing. He was givien the Ohio DNR phone number for asking them about the fishing laws.

On April 11 a resident reported that her sister had recently been staying with her and she suspected her sister of abusing drugs. The resident reported she found hypodermic syringes that contained suspected heroin in the sister’s belongings. The officer investigated and found several items of drug nature and taken to the BCI&I for testing and the report will be forwarded to the Paulding County Prosecutor. 

On April 12 the officer received a report of an alleged child abuse. The officer investigated and found no indication of abuse occurring.

On April 12 a Defiance County Probation officer contacted the Antwerp PD and believed that a person on felony probation and a registered sex offender was living at a residence with a woman and her two children present. The individual was arrested and transported to the Paulding County Jail. The case is under investigation. 

On April 12 an officer attempted to stop a black pickup truck that was acting suspicious who attempted to evade the officer. The truck fled north on SR 49. The officer did not pursue. The department was able to investigate and found the owner and the driver. He was cited for shortcutting across private property, reckless operation of a vehicle and driving under suspension. The report was sent to the Paulding County Prosecutor’s office.

On April 13 a domestic occurred outside the village limits. One of the people involved walked to the Antwerp Police department and the Paulding Sheriff was contacted. The individual was arrested for domestic violence. 

On April 13 The Hicksville Police contacted the Antwerp PD in reference to a felony rape investigation. 

On April 14 a resident reported that his live-in girlfriend was missing. While the officers were obtaining information and calling friends and family, the live-in girlfriend arrived home, called him at the police department and complained to him that he should not have gone to the police.

On April 14 a resident reported that she received several calls from several numbers. They claimed that if she did not press “1” she would be arrested. They were claiming to be from the Social Security Administration. She did not give any information out and hung up on the those attempting to commit fraud.

On April 15 an officer was requested to come to the school due to a husband and wife having a verbal altercation in front of the school. The officer determined that both residents lived outside the village. One of the residents had a no contact order issued from the court and was asked to leave. Nothing criminal had occurred during the incident.

On April 16 a vehicle was seen parked in the Dollar General parking lot with people in it. The officer investigated and found the vehicle had broken down. Assistance was on the way.

On April 17 a vehicle was partially on the road and part on the driveway. The officer explained to the resident how this is dangerous and the resident moved the vehicle.

On April 18 an employee of a local business asked for an officer to stay at a business until the employee could retrieve the keys for locking the door at closing time. The officer stayed until the employee returned.

On April 20 the Antwerp Police received a report from a resident that she had given a man in Fort Wayne $3000 for a vehicle and he has not paid her back yet. When she spoke with her attorney, he recommended that she talk to the local law enforcement. It was explained that she needed to talk to the attorney to file a lawsuit since it was a civil matter.
