Cystic Fibrosis Drive By Parade in Antwerp

Cheyenne Maynard is 11 years old and this would have been her tenth year for her and her family to participate in this annual fundraising event.

May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month. Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. There are approximately 30,000 people in the United States living with CF today.

One of those brave people live in our little corner of the world – Cheyenne Maynard of Antwerp. Each year she and her family and friends participate in the Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Walk in Fort Wayne. Due to the recent pandemic, this event was canceled. Her mother and father, Kyley and Alan decided to plan a drive by parade in honor of Cheyenne and CF awareness. Kyley asked her church family and family members if they would participate and everyone was more than willing to do this for Cheyenne. Once word got out, friends, teachers, her church and family members all congregated at Riverside Church north of town to caravan down Main Street right past the Maynard’s house. Their front yard was decorated with a garden of purple balloons.

Cheyenne was blown away by this overwhelming show of support for her and her condition. Her level of thankfulness left her basically speechless. Her mother asked her why she was crying at the end of the parade, and all she could say was, “Mommy I am just so happy!”

It was a beautiful day on May 2, 2020 to celebrate Cystic Fibrosis Awareness for Cheyenne through Antwerp.
