Antwerp Police Reminds People to Not Fall for Scams

On March 11, the Antwerp Police department assisted the Paulding Police Department and the Job and Family Services in connection with an alleged rape that occurred in the Village of Paulding.

On March 11, a suspect/defendant from the Country Times break-in contacted the police department claiming his attorney, Tim Holtsberry, said he could get his phone back that had been taken by the Antwerp Police Department because the case had been dismissed. However, on contacting the Paulding County Prosecutor the case had not been dismissed and the trial is scheduled for May. 

On March 12, an unmarked pill bottle with opened capsules was discarded in a trash can. The case was investigated and a search warrant was obtained and a residence was searched. The items recovered were sent to BCI&I for testing. 

On March 12, a resident of Daggett St reported an unwanted person at their property. When the officer arrived the suspect had left already. The case was investigated and the person was called telling them that the land owner no longer wanted them on their property or to contact them.

On March 14, a citizen of the village came into the station saying that a person called him from an 800 number claiming to be from Google. The rep from Google said they claimed he had been looking at child porn and that he must get $400 Google gift cards and give the pin numbers over the phone to pay for the “crime”. After doing so the person was told that it was not quite enough and needed to give him the last four digits of his debit card. Upon this, the person realized it was a scam and had the bank cancel his debit card numbers.

On March 15, a resident of the village was arrested on a warrant for a grand jury indictment. 

On March 15, an officer was on patrol and noticed flooding on Waterplant Drive and then contacted the Village Administrator.

On March 16, a resident of Maumee Lane reported that a person was driving around taking pictures of houses. The case was investigated and determined that the person was driving around wanting to build a new house was getting ideas.

On March 19, a local business owner reported an employee had been taking money from the business. The case was investigated and the employee was terminated and referred to the prosecutor for charges.

On March 20, a resident of West River Street reported that a male suspect was at the property next door and taking pictures of her grandchildren that were playing outdoors. The case was investigated and found the suspect was a realtor who denied taking pictures of the children.

On March 21, an officer was called to an incident on South Main Street. One suspect had allegedly stabbed a driver in the neck causing the driver to veer off and crash into a parked car and both vehicles caught fire. The suspect also assaulted a fireman. The suspect was arrested and resisted arrest. Both were taken to the hospital for evaluation and the suspect was incarcerated in the Paulding County Jail.

On March 21, a resident of Daggett Street reported that he believed someone trespassed in and around his property both day and night. Images were captured on cameras and is now under investigation.

On March 23, at 8:00 p.m. an officer, while in the police department, noticed a male subject behind the police department on cameras acting strange. Upon investigating the subject was deemed suicidal and taken for evaluation.
