HUBER CHORUS TO PERFORM

The Huber Opera House would like to thank you, our communities, for your 20 years of support and offer this great opportunity to celebrate the restoration.  Twenty years ago, the Huber was being rescued from the likelihood of becoming a parking lot. Several citizens, led by the Hicksville Historical Society, worked to make the purchase and then to clean the building, promote events, and arrange fundraising ideas.

The Huber Opera House and Civic Center, Inc. became official on Dec. 7, 1999, but there were years of meetings and gathering support prior to that.  Its restoration has continued from the visions of a few, an architect’s image, skilled volunteer workmanship, many fund raising events, and now its own productions.  Since then, the venue has been used for productions, events, private parties, weddings, and any group gathering.

Virlynn Rex was the director of the Huber Chorus when the idea developed, it was quite well received, and the chorus continued with several concerts for the community and surrounding areas.   This year, 20 years after the Huber became official, the Huber Chorus returns under the direction of Andrew Gross and accompanied by Nancy Cline.  Because of Virlynn’s creative involvement with the Huber, inspiration to young people, and as the first director of the Huber Chorus, the program is dedicated to her.

If you need a boost in holiday spirit, somewhere to take the family, or want to hear great music (and see Santa Claus), this is recommended!   The presentation is December 7, 2019 at 7:00 p.m., bringing you sacred and secular music as a 4-part chorus and small groups. Beginning at 6:30, we will have a slide show of pictures of the Huber as restoration began, and you will see faces of those you know and love who poured heart and soul into the beautiful work to restore the Huber to its former glory.

The show will be open to the public and free will donations accepted.
