The Vantage Board of Education held the February Regular Board meeting on Thursday, February 7, 2019 in the District Conference room. During the Board meeting, Minutes from the January 10, 2019 regular Board meeting were approved along with financial statements for the month of December, 2018.

He also welcomed Tony Unverferth, High School Director, Missy McClurg, OTC Director, Maria Diltz, OTC Enrollment Coordinator, and Miriam Owens, Community Relations Coordinator.

Superintendent Rick Turner updated the Board that the legislative seminar attended a few weeks ago was a success. Meetings were held with each legislator and considerable time was given with two of them. Topics discussed were: support in the new biennium budget for both general fund and adult education and also support for the career technical education deregulation bill. The team also spoke in regards to the positive things happening at Vantage. Those items included: 807 industry recognized credentials issued last year, Class A CDL program for high school students, a lab only option for associate school seniors to obtain a credential, middle school exploration camp, the contract with General Dynamics Land Systems and our newly obtained firefighting charter.

High School Director Tony Unverferth updated the Board on the Step Into Your Future event that occurred on January 26. During this program many middle-school girls explored programs that would be considered “non-traditional” for them according to our state and federal guidelines. He also spoke about Sophomore Day which occurred on February 6. Over 700 sophomores from all of our home-school districts visited Vantage to learn about the programs offered if they were to attend Vantage for the 2019-2020 school year.

Ohio Technical Center Director Missy McClurg updated the Board on General Dynamics partnership as the OTC is close to finalizing the Statement of Work proposals with Jobs Ohio. The OTC is also working with Jobs Ohio to create a proposal for CNC and Welding funding for adult programs. Thanks was given to Vancrest for their donation of 2 medical carts for the Practical Nursing Program. PNP students are in phase 3 of the program having completed their skills lab check offs and are now on the floor providing clinical care 2 days per week. Applications are being accepted for next year’s Practical Nursing Program; there are spots for 24 students. The firefighter 1 class will hold orientation mid-February and will begin with 10 students. Other program updates were given including EMT, STNA and Basic Welding which all began during the past month.
