Archers coast to win over Big Green

ANTWERP – Keaton Altimus led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points while teammates Cole Seslar and Ty Rebber chipped in ten each as the Antwerp Archers defeated Ottoville 58-41 in non-league boys basketball action December 11th.

The blue and white led 17-7 at the end of one quarter before widening the margin to 34-15 at the intermission. Antwerp then posted a 44-31 lead entering the final stanza.

Jayvin Lander posted eight markers for the Archers with Luke Brewer adding seven and Austin Lichty recorded six.

Blake Schuette aided the cause with four points and Boston Dunderman hit a pair of free throws for Antwerp, which is now 3-1 on the season.

Ottoville was led by 13 points from Joseph Miller with Ryan Suever chipping in a dozen markers.

Other scorers for the Big Green were Drew Fisher (six), Josh Thorbahn (five), Zach Knippen (three) and Kyle Manns (two).

The Big Green won the battle of the boards, 33-24, but also committed more turnovers, 18-10.

Antwerp’s defense limited Ottoville to 27 percent shooting as the Big Green was 13 of 49 from the field. The Archers made 20 of 50 shots (40 percent).

In the junior varsity game, Antwerp picked up a 39-27 victory.

Antwerp will play in the Route 49 Classic on December 27 when it battles host Edgerton. The consolation and championship games will take place December 28 at the home of the Bulldogs.

Ottoville returns to action Friday as the Big Green visits Elida before hosting Delphos St. John’s Saturday.
