Antwerp Local Schools Makes Final Preparations for New Year

Antwerp School placed a new sign at the entrance to the school drive, demonstrating the effectiveness of their education, and on the back side, reminding drivers and passengers to buckle up. The sign was manufactured by local sign supplier, West Bend Printing.

The Antwerp school board meeting met August 3 at 6:45 a.m. to discuss hiring a teacher before the current school year starts.

Income: $1,235,711.66, expenditures: $836,579.80, and interest: $9,537.30

Mary Lillemon was hired as a 6th grade teacher. Sam Smith will be hired to fill the new position for audio/visual sound systems in the school. The lunch prices will stay the same for this year. Mike Rohrs will transition to groundskeeping. Lynn Bute will be given a pay raise.

Superintendent Marty Miller stated Harold Gotke questioned his vacation and his having his contract modified to reflect changes.

It was asked by Bob Herber if the school buses needed retrofitted with seat belts. He had heard the cost is around $10,000. There were questions about how a driver could ensure that kids could be unbuckled in time with an emergency situation. Also, how would they ensure that students will wear the safety belt?

A new ice machine will be purchased for the athletic complex building.

Marty Miller met with Ed Bohn (PC EMA), Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Antwerp Police, Antwerp Fire and EMS to strategize and unify a response to an active shooter situation.

The school board then recognized Bryce Steiner of West Bend Printing for the new sign that was installed at the drive entrance to the school.
