Library Summer Reading Program Winds Down with Two Exciting Events

The Paulding County Carnegie Library system’s Summer Reading Program (SRP), Libraries Rock!, is winding down and two exciting events have been planned. On Thursday, July 19th, the Ohio Historical Society’s Armstrong Air & Space Museum will present programs at each branch. Rock the Waves will allow guests to experience the changes in sound through interactive experiments. Participants will engage in hands-on activities using tuning forks, conductors and insulators to analyze and compare their sound waves. This program will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Payne Branch Library, 12:00 p.m. at the Antwerp Branch Library and at 4:00 p.m. at the Cooper Community Branch Library in Oakwood. Gemini Jams will be offered at the main historic Carnegie library at 2:00 p.m. Participants will learn about the instruments played on the Gemini VI mission and build a harmonica out of household items. Groups will be challenged to create their own song.

The SRP finale will be held on Tuesday, July 24th at the OSU Extension Building at the fairgrounds. Back by popular demand, Sogbety Diomonde will share the rhythms, dances, and songs showcasing West African drumming. A professional drummer and dancer, Diomande uses his art form to raise awareness of the need to respect and honor human diversity and other cultures. The event will be held at 2:00 p.m.

Both programs are free of charge and family friendly. The SRP officially ends on August 3rd. Over 480 adults, teens, and children have signed up for this summer’s reading program. Contact the library at 419-399-2032 for more information about the library or any of these fun SRP events.
