Vestel “Skip” Schlegel Obituary

Vestel “Skip” Schlegel, Sr., 85, of Paulding, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at The Gardens of Paulding in Paulding, Ohio.

He was born on July 24, 1932 to Isadore and Pearl (Horsterman) Schlegel in Paulding County. On July 28, 1956  he married Evelyn (Yenser) Schlegel, who resides in Paulding.

Vestel was a member of Free Christian Church of God in Continental, Ohio, and the Emerald Auglaize Emerald Fox Club. He was a 4-H Advisor, and a life-long farmer. Vestel took pride in his work and found joy with his family. He loved being outdoors, and he enjoyed hunting and playing cards.

Vestel will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Evelyn Schlegel of Paulding, son, Vestel “Cork” (Deborah) Schlegel, Jr. of Paulding, daughters, Vera Schlegel of Defiance, Veronica “Roni” (Glenn) Bakle of Paulding, and Vicki (Brian) Maynard of Findlay, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brother, Kenneth Schlegel of Paulding, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind special friends, Joyce and Greg Tracy and family of Melrose, Mark Justinger and family of Paulding, and Mike and Myra Hanenkratt and family of Minster, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be held from 2 – 8 pm on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and from 9 -10 am on Saturday morning. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 14th at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Pastor Charles Schmunk officiating. Burial will  follow the service at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Paulding County.
