Spring Hunting Season Opens Soon

The winter months have passed us by. It is finally spring. Well, sort of. According to the calendar spring arrived last week. The weather looks and feels like winter. It will soon change and all the spring time activities will begin. With spring’s arrival, it starts a new hunting season.

2018-2019 hunting licenses went on sale March 1st. One thing you may be required to have is a certificate of completion of a Hunters Education course. If you want to hunt in a different state, they may require this as well. All first time hunting license buyers, except apprentice license buyers must successfully complete a hunter education course before purchasing a license.

We are fortunate to have local volunteers who present this training a couple times a year. The next class is April 7-8. If you are interested you can register at www.wildlife.ohiodnr.gov. These classes are free to attend, but you must register prior to event. This class is a two day class. Held on Saturday April 7th from 9-5pm and Sunday April 8th from 1-4pm. All the materials are included. There is no age limit but youth 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The instructors are local residents and avid hunters. They offer their vast knowledge about the different aspects and types of hunting. In this class you will learn about the different types of hunting equipment. The safe and proper use of the different equipment. The name of the parts of hunting equipment and ammunition. You will learn about the proper storage and care of your equipment. The instructors will talk about the code of ethics and being a responsible hunter.

The class is sponsored by the Division of Wildlife and the Antwerp Conservation Club. The class is being held at the Antwerp Conservation Club  at 17814 Road 53, Antwerp, Ohio. Lunch will be provided and drinks are available. Hope to see you there.
