Rough Start Dooms Antwerp

VAN WERT – A bad start proved to be too much to overcome for the Antwerp boys basketball team on Wednesday night as the Archers dropped a 59-53 decision to Parkway in Division IV sectional action at Van Wert High School.

The Panthers jumped out to an 18-6 lead at the end of 8 minutes of action and never trailed the rest of the way in advancing to the next round.

Antwerp did make things interesting, closing to within 3 points late in the contest, but Parkway held on for the victory.

Parkway led 32-23 at the end of the first half and the Panthers took a 40-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

Cole Seslar had an outstanding night for Antwerp, scoring a game high 29 points to lead all scorers.

Luke Brewer added 11 markers for the blue and white and Ty Rebber chipped in 10. Blake Schuette added 3 points for Antwerp as well.

The Panthers were led by Corey Walls, who scored 20 points, while Caleb Kinney added 10 markers.

Also finding the scoring column for the Mercer County squad were Jack Wehe (9), Mason Baxter (7), Dylan Hughes (7), Andrew Baker (4) and Preston Stober (2).

Antwerp’s 2017-18 season finished at a 13-10 record.
