ACC Holds First Pistol match

On Saturday October 21st, the Antwerp Conservation club held its first centerfire pistol match as a fundraising effort for Christmas for Kids. The match was held in our newly reworked pistol bays. The five stages were designed to challenge and build pistol handling skills. The course of fire has the shooter starting from different positions with a scenario that they must navigate through and shoot. A shot timer and scoring zones are used to get an accumulative score.

The first stage had the shooter standing facing down range at two targets 10 yards away with eleven rounds in their gun. At start signal, drawing from holster, the shooter engages each target with two rounds each. Alternating between targets until the gun is empty and then the shooter must reload and fire the twelfth shot. Each target should have six hits.

The remaining stages had the shooter start from either a seated or standing position. At the start signal, the shooter would address targets from the seated or standing position. Then move to different positions and address the other targets ranging from 1 yd to 20 yds

The club used IDPA rules and shooting format for this event, minus a cover garment. IDPA was developed to give concealed carry license holders a way to practice and develop safe handling skills and marksmanship with a method to track improvement.

The next match will be held on November 4th at noon. The proceeds from these events are going to our local Christmas for Kid. To see videos of this shooting format, look up IDPA on YouTube.
