Wayne Trace Wrestling Team Receives $2,500 Donation from the Cooper Family Foundation

Much appreciation to the Cooper Family Foundation for their recent donation to the Wayne Trace Rebel Wrestling Team, this generous donation assisted us in the ability to take an elementary team and a junior high team to compete in the 18th Annual Virginia Beach National Duals Tournament in Virginia Beach, Virginia over Memorial Day weekend.

The Jr. High Team finished the first day of the tournament with a record of 2-1 which kept them in the championship pools going into the second day. The elementary team had a little more trouble the first day and finished 1-2 dropping them into the consolation pools moving into day two.

Day two of the tournament the Jr. High team faced very tough competition and went 0-3 on the day, facing great teams out of New Jersey and Pennsylvania who were more than the Rebels could handle. The Jr. High team finished 2-4 overall for the weekend with 3 of their 4 losses coming against teams who went on to finish in the top 12.  The elementary team wrapped up day two by going 1-2 again and finished the weekend 2-4 as well.

The 18th Annual Virginia Beach National Duals tournament brought in 368 teams this year, with over 5,500 individuals representing over 30 states. This was the second year that Wayne Trace was able to a team down and we hope that we can continue this tradition every year. This is the type of competition that you just don’t see in our area. To be able to expose the kids to this level and wrestling as well as build a great team bonding is something we are glad to be able to provide to these young athletes and without the assistance of generous donations like the one received from The Cooper Family Foundation this trip would not be possible.
