Wayne Trace Junior High Students Send Letters to Navy Recruits

Mrs. Gudakunst was contacted by Angela Teagle, a parent from the school district, about some Navy Recruits stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Great Lakes, Illinois who were in need of some letters. Angela had a relative at Great Lakes who noticed that many recruits from Ship 11 were not receiving any mail and were having tough time in basic training. The lack of any letters from home, family issues, a family crisis that had taken place prior to departure and the difficult training days were making their basic training experience even more challenging. Angela contacted Mrs. Gudakunst to see if she could help get these ladies some letters. The 7th and 8th graders went on a letter writing campaign to be sure these service women got the encouragement they needed to get through those treacherous days of training.  They stuffed 17 envelopes with letters of encouragement and thank yous hoping that in the next several days their name will be called during mail call and their day will be a little brighter because of it.
