State Patrol Investigating Fatal Crash in Van Wert County

police lights sheriff emergencyPleasant Township – The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US Route 224 at the intersection of Liberty Union Road in Van Wert County.

On September 1, 2016, at approximately 3:10 P.M., a 2003 GMC Envoy, driven by Lloyd Conway, age 57 of Charlotte, Michigan, was traveling west bound on US Route 224 approaching Liberty Union Road. Mr. Conway attempted to make a left turn onto Liberty Union Road and was struck by a 2005 Honda Accord, driven by William H. Wise III, age 67 of Van Wert, who was traveling east bound on US Route 224.

A passenger in the Honda, Alice Wise, age 66 of Van Wert, was transported by Van Wert EMS to Van Wert County Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Mr. Wise was transported by Van Wert EMS to Van Wert County Hospital where he was treated and transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center. Mr. Conway, the driver of the GMC, and his passenger, Anya Straka-Conway, age 26, were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.

Mr. and Mrs. Wise were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, as was Mr. Conway. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the incident. US Route 224 was closed for approximately one hour and has since reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
