Woodburn is welcoming a brand new entry into the future—and its history. Mayor Joe Kelsey opened the morning announcing the importance of the changes to the Woodburn site (formerly the grocery store). The clock tower Plaza is ready to begin construction this summer and hopefully be completed by fall. The Henney Family is whom the park is being named for — Harry and Jeanette Henney. They are longtime pillars of the community. Family members spoke of their parents’ involvement in the community and thanked the mayor for the recognition. The city council, the mayor, council officials and family of the Woodburn community were all prepared on Friday, June 10th for the groundbreaking, celebrating this marked event. Half of the Henney family was present to show their support for the park named in their father’s honor. Over the past several years, the community of Woodburn has made strides in rebuilding and rebranding this city with consistency proceeding in its plans. It has had great success in revitalizing its downtown area through the Indiana Main Street Program last year. New sidewalks, curbs, street lights, planters and other improvements have been completed and this plaza is the next step in major improvements. This all took place one day prior to the annual Summerfest. Watch for the improvements in downtown Woodburn, marking the center of town, starting soon!
