The Antwerp Archers travelled to Continental on Saturday, December 12 at the home court of the Pirates. Antwerp has had good games this year, but not the best outcomes. I think you’ll see both Antwerp and Continental very similar. The Archers went in with a 1-3 record. The JV game was won by Antwerp 26-20.

The game began with Antwerp having a phenomenal first period when Sam Williamson easily nailed two 3 point baskets and Matt Jones scoring 2 – 2 pointers and they outscored the Pirates by 10 points.

The second quarter, like they do many times, reversed course and put Continental in charge when Williams and Olds both kept hitting the basket.

On the Archer side, defense was struggling to hold down the Pirates while the offense had a hard time keeping it on Antwerp’s side, only adding 7 points to the period. The half finished with Antwerp holding a small lead, 24-19.

The rest of the game came down to pure entertainment. By the end of the fourth quarter, the game was tied at 44. Next came the overtime periods, Sam Williamson kept getting fouled, and two of the Continental players fouled out. Out of 16 free throws under this kind of pressure, Sam missed none! Matt Jones also had 6 points from foul shots. The game had four overtime periods before Antwerp put this one to bed. The final score was 79-72.

Score by the Quarter:

Antwerp – 17 7 9 11 2 3 14 16=79

Continental – 7 12 10 15 2 3 14 9=72

Scorers of the Game:

Antwerp — Williamson 33; Jones 18; Longardner 13; Poulson 12; Mills 3

The Archers are now 2-3 for the season. The Boys basketball team will play at Stryker on Tuesday, December 15 and at home on December 17 against Ayersville.
