Cameron Stoller Places 1st in County Spelling Bee

Wayne Trace spellers grabs first and second place in the spell off.

Last night on February 9 the winners of all Paulding County schools descended upon Antwerp as they battled for the top spot of the Journal Gazette Spelling Bee competition.

These smart speller representatives included: Gaige McMichael, Antwerp Elementary; Grace Tuttle, Antwerp Jr. High; Joy McIntosh, Christian Home Educators of Paulding County; Kaden Sutton, Divine Mercy Catholic Schools, Hailey Hartzell, Oakwood Elementary; Gabriella Casper, Paulding Elementary; Heather Manz, Paulding Middle School; Faith Meraz, Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary; Cameron Stoller, Wayne Trace Payne Elementary; Catie Strable, Wayne Trace Jr. High.

The spellers performed very well. By the fourth and fifth rounds some of the spellers had dropped off.

The last three were McMichael from Antwerp, Meraz from Grover Hill and Stoller from Payne. Both Gaige and Faith missed their words in the next round and Cameron ended up taking the win with ‘homonym’. For runner up there was the competition between Faith and Gaige. Faith ended up taking the second place position.

Cameron will represent Paulding County at the regional competition in Fort Wayne at IPFW on Saturday, March 7. Faith will have to continue studying too since she will take Cameron’s place if for some reason she cannot be there.

Congratuations to Cameron and all the scholars at the spelling bee!
